Canção Nova Community arrived in the United States of America in 2004!
Today we are eight members bringing this Charisma that wishes to form new men and women to the new world! Five Nucleo missionaries are in our main house in Philadelphia-PA and three Segundo Elo members live in the states of New Jersey and Massachussetts.
The Núcleo Canção Nova members are those who dedicate themselves full-time to the service of the mission, leaving home, work, studies, relationships, and so on to live in community.
The Segundo Elo members also live out their commitment to the Canção Nova Community, but they remain in their local reality. They live out the Canção Nova Charism in its totality, sanctifying the environment in which they are present and being the arms of Canção Nova where the Núcleo members cannot reach.
The name Canção Nova refers to the New Song: “Sing to the Lord a new song.”
Psalm 96:1 is the song of the redeemed, of the new men and women of the new world.
To evangelize, communicate Jesus and the new life He brought through encounters and means of communication to form new men and women for the new world
To lead to the personal experience of encountering Jesus Christ in the efficacy of the Holy Spirit.
We are a Catholic Community of Love and Adoration that proclaims the Good News. We belong to the Salesian Family.
Canção Nova Community was founded by Monsignor Jonas Abib (in memoriam) on February 2, 1978. It was born for the Church.
Starting from the Apostolic Exhortation Evangelii Nuntiandi of Pope Paul VI, Monsignor Jonas Abib made the first call to young people who felt the need to give their lives entirely to God, in community. The community grew and was formed with men and women, young people, adults; single, married, and celibate; priests and deacons.
Along with him in the foundation were Luzia Santiago and Wellington Jardim.
Our Founder passed away on December 12, 2022, after a life entirely devoted to evangelization, first as a Salesian priest and later as Founding Father of Canção Nova.

Five Principles of Life: the values that govern the way of being and acting of all members of the Community

The Canção Nova Community is composed of women and men, young and adults, married, single, and celibate, priests and deacons. But, first and foremost, they are sisters and brothers and should treat each other as such; therefore, all members should make every effort to avoid occasions that may be an obstacle to living chastity.

Canção Nova Community has the grace of experiencing each day the fulfillment of the promise the Lord makes to it: 'Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.' (Cf. Mt 6:25-33). God impels us to invest our lives in the Gospel, in confidence and in the loving Providence of the Father: God will provide (Cf. Gn 22:8).

With docility of mind and heart, the will of God should always and in all things be accomplished, which is manifested through the Magisterium of the Church and the authorities established in it. All must be obedient to the Pope and to the bishops in communion with him, especially to the bishop of the diocese where the Mission Front is located. All members must also be obedient, in matters concerning the nature and purposes of the Association, to the authorities established in the Canção Nova Community.
Members who are called to exercise authority should assume it in an attitude of service for the sake of the mission. In this way, the associative body that is the Canção Nova Community, coordinated and harmonious, fully and effectively fulfills its vocation.

Sharing and transparency are key realities in building fraternity. In daily life and in community and service meetings, we need to advance in transparency with one another. It is essential to share what we think and feel, our aspirations and desires, our motivations, our projects, our difficulties. Nothing should remain hidden, buried in the heart.
This is how we build deep relationships: we make ourselves known and come to know others in depth. This living in the light through transparency and sharing is as important as prayer. When we neglect one or the other, life becomes complicated: tensions grow, judgments arise, murmuring, conflicts.

The Canção Nova Community is made up of human and fragile persons. Each one must continually strive to correct in themselves those attitudes and ways of being that do not build fraternal life. The practice of forgiveness, according to the Lord's commandment, is fundamental to fraternal life in community. Living in reconciliation is a duty of all members who must always and as soon as possible (cf. Mt 5:23-24; Eph 4:26b) forgive one another for the wrongs received (cf. Mt 18:21-22).
Pontifical Recognition
On the Solemnity of Our Lady of Aparecida on October 12, 2008, Canção Nova Community received Pontifical Recognition and approval of its Statutes by the Holy Father, Benedict XVI, through the Pontifical Council for the Laity, a Vatican office responsible for Catholic movements and new communities.

Discover stories of a beautiful encounter with God through Canção Nova
[about a retreat] I want to leave here my very, very, very, very heartfelt thanks for giving me the opportunity through this beautiful charism. I leave this retreat with a certainty in my heart; God has worked wonders in me and these wonders need to be carried forward.
Thank you, God bless each and every one of you greatly, it was beautiful it was wonderful it was spectacular it was inexplicable it was lived and felt, thank you all, a big hug.
I praise and thank God for the lives and the mission of all the Canção Nova missionaries here in the U.S. I thought God had opened the doors of this country for me to come with the goal of working and prospering financially, but today I can say that what He had in store for me is far greater than I ever imagined: to discover the Canção Nova charism, that sweet, joyful, and loving way of proclaiming the truths of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for everything—and for so much—Canção Nova USA!
